Based on the profit and benefit of working together as a close knit collaborative whole, membership is limited and subject to the board members evaluation through the written constitution of IDEA.

There are several form of membership

Professional membership is granted to individual who has at least an undergraduate degree in industrial design or a related design discipline, and/or appropriate professional experience. Such a member may serve as Committee Members, and are eligible to vote.

Prospective membership is granted to students attending a school of industrial design or studying in a related design discipline. Such a member may serve as Committee Members, and are eligible to vote.

Sponsorship membership is granted to organizations or business companies that work or serve in the design field. Such a member may not serve as Committee Members, and are not eligible to vote.

Supporting membership is granted to individual, organization or companies not eligible for other forms of Membership in the Society. Such a member may not serve as Committee Members, and are not eligible to vote.
